Shaikh Zaid divides 6, 800  gold bars among his wives, sons and daughters whose number adds to 30.  The number of bars that each son gets is thrice the number of bars that each wife gets but the total number of bars distributed among the sons is nine times greater than  those distributed among the wives. . The number of bars  each daughter gets  is  twice the number of bars each wife gets.  But the total number of bars distributed among the daughters is seven times the numbers of bars distributed among the wives. 

Can you tell how many sons, daughters and wives the Shaikh has?

3. Wives 4, sons 12 and daughters 12.
   First assume total bars going to wives as x. Then
   x + 9x + 7 x = 6800
   x = 400
   That means 3600 bars went to the sons and  2800 to the
   daughters. But the share of each sons is three times that
   of each wife. Had the Shaikh given the same share to son
   as that of wife,  the total bars going to sons would be
   one third of 3600. In the same way the total bars going
   to the daughters = 1400 instead of 2800.
   Since there are 30 members the equal share would have been:
   400 + 1200 + 1400 = 3000 bars i.e. 100 bars per member.
   Total 400 bars for wives means 4 wives and in the same way
   we get 12 sons and 14 daughters.

   Another solution for this problem.
   W=number of wives
   S=number of sons
   D=number of daughters
   Say each wife gets one bar
   each son gets 3 bars
   each daughter gets 2 bars

   3S=9(1W)
   S=3W
   2D=7(1W)
   D=3.5 W
   +S      +D=30
   W+3W+3.5W=30
   7.5W            =30
   W            = 4
   S             =12
   D             =14   answer

   number of gold bars:
   wives         4*1 = 4
   sons         12*3=36
   daughters  14*2=28
   TOTAL              68

   We need 6800 bars of gold which is 100 times our answer,
   so we increase our assumption 100 fold:

   number of gold bars:
   wives         4*100 = 400
   sons         12*300=3600
   daughters  14*200=2800
   TOTAL       6800
