Anagrams By Shah N. Khan, Editor Weekly Fraternity Briefs (Retd General Manager and Executive Director of State Life Insurance Corporation of Pakistan) An anagram is a rearrangement of the letters of one word or phrase to form another word or phrase. For instance from Satin to stain. Anagram also means a game whose object is to form words from a group of randomly picked letters. The anagram of "George Bush" comes out as "He bugs Gore"! And anagram of "Osama Bin Laden" may be "Old man in a base" among thousands of other permutation of the letters in these names but most of them would merely be meaningless jumble of words. For "President Saddam Hussein" you can come up with the anagram "Dispensed human disaster". I have been composing anagrams for the last 5 years for my weekly Quiz Corner column for Weekly Fraternity Briefs. Now people have developed software that spares you of the trouble of brainstorming over permutations and you can come up with anagrams for different words and names within few seconds. Like puzzles and quiz the anagrams are composed just for fun and mental exercises but help in improving English. The following anagrams for our leaders and politicians are quoted in sporting spirit and if anyboldy's feelings are injured my apologies in advance. |
