ANSWERS TO THE QUIZ.
Answers will be visible after you click the button below.
1. 'Democrats' anagrams to 'Smart code.'

2. *b = 144
(a-1)*(b-1)=120
a*b-a-b+1=120
a+b-1=24
a+b=25
a=25-b
(25-b)*b=144
-b^2+25b=144
b^2-25b=-144
(b-12.5)^2=-144+625/4=156.25-144=12.25=49/4
b-12.5=7/2
b=16

3. T= amount of money Tom has.
C= cost of a piece of candy

Given:
eqn. 1)   T-2=C
eqn. 2)   T+9=2C

multiply both sides of eq. 1 by 2
eqn. 3)   2T-4=2C
from eqn 2:
eqn. 4)   2T-4=2C=T+9
drop the 2C
eqn. 5)   2T-4=T+9
add 4 to both sides
eqn. 6)   2T=T+13
subtract T from each side
eqn. 7)   T=13  answer
