Answers to the Quiz (\_/)_(\_/)_(\_/)

1. Politicians

2. Etch and ought are converted as wretch and wrought.
Ever and ear are converted as clever and clear.
Own and eight are converted as frown and freight.
Under and ink are converted as blunder and blink.

3. An experienced problem solver will pick speed as
the variables. I can't say why.
Let
J = Joe's speed relative to shore, mph
T = Tom's speed relative to shore, mph
.
Set the words to equations:
3T=4J+3
7J=4T+1
.
To set this up like a matrix problem, numbers go on
the right and variables line
up in columns on the left
4J -3T = -3
7J -4T = 1
.
Let's solve without matrix because I don't know how to
use matrix. Multiply the
first equation by 7 and the second equation by 4.
28J  21T = -21
28J  16T = 4
subtract
0J -5T = -25
T = 5
J = 3
